Phlebitis is the inflammation of a vein, most commonly occurring in the legs. There are two types — superficial phlebitis affecting veins near the skin surface, and deep phlebitis which is more serious and requires immediate attention.

Symptoms

  • Redness and warmth along the vein

  • Swelling and tenderness

  • Hard cord-like feeling along the affected vein

  • Skin discoloration

  • Fever in severe cases
